Ana L. (Lobo) Ferreira, 83, of Somerville, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 16, 2022.

She was born in Britelo, Ponte da Barca, daughter to José Gonçalves Lobo and Maria De Jesus Araújo Brito. Ana immigrated to the United States at the age of 29, along with her devoted late husband, José Alves Ferreira, to join other recently relocated family members, including her sister, Rosa.

Ana became a proud naturalized American citizen in 2001, but always remained connected to her Portuguese roots and values, including her devotion to the Catholic faith.

She worked many jobs throughout her career, and retired at the age of 65 from her position as a factory worker at Rogers Foam Corporation of Somerville, MA.

Ana and José were married for over 42 years, and found love in many hobbies and activities, including caring after their blossoming garden and homegrown grapevines, making wine, watching daytime television game shows, cooking, caring after the family’s dogs, and attending church.

Ana was the loving and inspirational mother of Elizabeth Fisher, of Somerville, and her husband Raymond. She was also the cherished grandmother of Nicole and Joseph Fisher, their “Vovó”, who she faithfully cared for and supported unconditionally. Ana worked tirelessly throughout her life to support and care for her family – combining feistiness with love, and truthfulness with care.

She was the beloved sister of Rosa Gonçalves, and the late Carmelina Lobo, António Gonçalves, and Joaquim Lobo.

She was a fun and warm-hearted aunt, cousin, and friend – so kind and curious about others and always with a sense of humor. A natural caretaker and loving presence for so many, she is survived by many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. Her love and adoration extended to Giovanni Guarino, a close family relative.

Visiting Hours will be at the Rogers & Hutchins Funeral Home, 292 Massachusetts Avenue, in Arlington on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 4:30 to 8:00 pm.
